Dear Antoine,
My grandfather was wounded in the Spanish Civil War, and after that my family went along with many refugee families to France: towards Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. My mather was born in 1931.
When WW2I broke out and France was invaded by the Nazis, they had had to return to San Sebastian, his house had been confiscated by the fascists, and had to start from zero again.
I've been with my mother twice there, and we are grateful to the Vendee´s people for their hospitality and appreciation.
Happy New Year.

Hello to all,
and Happy New Year.
Just for Information ...
and although for the time being I live and work in Mauritius, my Homeland has always been in Vendée where I am currently staying for a couple of days.
Vendée is a GREAT country. It has had a great and magnificent History, including during the French revolution (simply google "Guerres de Vendée" which BTW were also considered as very important to Solyenitsyine).
Best Regards to y'allKermit,
