Due to high cloud in the north I hava abandoned today's attempt to see venus with the naked eye.
Looking at the data I reaised that venus was on the meridian at about 0320 UT.
UT Azimuth Altitude
0120 029 20
0200 019 23
0210 017 24
0220 014 24
0320 359 26
0420 344 24
0520 330 20
The exact time of meridian passage can be found from the aeornautical almanc.
We need GHA = 360 - my east lat
= 360° - 175° 05'
= 184° 55'
From the AP UT 0310 -> GHA 182° 58' which is a difference of 1° 57'
From the interpolation table (for sun & planets) the increment is 7 min 48 sec
Hence time of meridian passage of venus is 0310 + 7m 48sec = 0318 (rounded to nearest minute).
