David,
Can you remind me: what is the expected altitude of Venus from your location? I have been waiting to see if you would have any luck, but I should say now that it is significantly more difficult to find Venus in daylight at altitudes below about 30°. There's extinction, which makes Venus fainter, and there's haze which makes the sky whiter. Contrast is greatly reduced. This time around, it may not be possible for you to see Venus in daylight, without optical aid. You may need to wait for an opportunity when Venus is at maximum brilliancy at a southerly declination. Meanwhile, for anyone in mid-northern latitudes, if you haven't seen it in daylight yet, you're doing it wrong! :) It's an easy object, right in the middle of the day.
