    Yes, I will try to post some more detail tomorrow. I didn't want to do a big data dump if other people were still working this out. You asked if the latitude could be something other than 51° S. Yes, maybe a degree north of there. You asked if I had to determine it was night time. No, it DOES NOT MATTER. There's nothing here that would let you determine longitude, but you can determine the Local Sidereal Time. The rule: if you look straight up, the declination on the sky that you see if your latitude, the right ascension is local sid. time. If you can't look straight up (like here), you INFER what's straight up altitudes of stars low in the sky.
