Venus is very bright in the early morning about 45° elongation from the Sun so it rises as much as three hours before sunrise. It's also visible through the mid-afternoon under a clear sky. Clear skies have been rare in New England for months, but we have had a few nice days in thepast couple of weeks. I observed Venus several times earlier this afternoon. Given rough estimates of altitude and azimuth, it was a snap to find it in binoculars. Then, as usual, I "walked it" in the binoculars to a convenient tree branch. After that it was relatively easy naked-eye, too --plain as day as soon as your eye falls on it.
