If you're referring to the photo I posted (I don't think David posted a photo), then yes, Venus does indeed look like a crescent. Or, more accurately, like a squashed donut. If you zoom way in to the photo, you can even see a slightly darker region near the center of the body.
I'm not sure what caused this. Perhaps it was because my hand was not steady when I took the picture. Or maybe it's turbulence in the atmosphere or just an artifact of my phone's image sensor. Or perhaps it's a combination of those and/or some other factors.
I've attached an enlarged image below. Maybe someone who knows more about this will chime in.
