Re: Venus mer-pass for Lat, Sun time sight for Lon.

    Dear Antoine!

Thank you - again - for the exhaustive answer!

Now I see - I should not mention my HoE while giving the HAs already cleared for the Dip. Lesson learned.

At first I thought I'll just photo the log-book page and upload it here - but then decided to transcribe it, the weather was VERY windy and cold, my hand-writing in the gloves is not so easy to decipher being unfamiliar with it. :) Hence the several typos. The log-book has only the WT (watch times) and HSs, all the corrections (WT to UT and HS to HA) were done at home. I also now strongly suspect I was not enough scrupulous while doing the HA to HO corrections, the biggish Sun's intercepts suggest I forgot some reduction stage. The Sun's sights themselves were easy - there were no obstructions on the horizon, I properly rocked the sextant for the perpendicularity and I know it - the swing for Venus was much larger than the swing for the Sun (which was closer to the horizon). I wish I had the Davis's prism attachment!

Now - I think - I can imagine how this could be difficult for a tired, sea-sick, sleep-deprived mariner to do the CN on board of a rocking boat! :)

As my vacations are over now and with the tightening on the lock-down here in Saint-Petersburg I do not know when I'll be able to take more sights...

    Huge thanks again!

Warm regards and the best health wishes,
    Tony
