Taking photos of scales through a magnifying glass proves to be very difficult - however the accompanying photo is indicative of how I see my Toughton & Simms scales.In short, if you set the magnifying glass at the correct distance from the scales they appear clear and sharp - more so than I can reproduce here. I find it is best NOT to use reading glasses. The optics work better if your eye is focused at infinity. I have no problem in identifying which minute on the vernier to choose.Geoffrey Kolbe
