In 2009 I brought my Tamaya with me to Europe since I was joining the Royal Clipper in Lisbon. I went through several countries that asked tme to explain what it was except Portugal where the guy recognized it with no explanation, the legacy of Prince Henry the Navigator. I had a completely different experience with an aeronautical sextant:
