Ok, I'm about to sail from Trafalgar to Puerto Rico to escort a gold galleon across the Atlantic because it's been reported that British Privateers are on the prowl. I'm a good sea captain... But... I have a weakness for alcohol. And while I was waiting in port to join the ship, I got very very drunk. The sailors actually had to come and carry me to the ship. I woke up with a hangover after we have already set to sea and it's that morning I realise the almanac is back in the pub... I'm not losing face by sailing a day back for it. I have yesterday's declination performed by the last second officer before he signed off the ship. I know Puerto Rico is due west, longitude doesnt matter... It's 2-4 weeks depending on the wind. I know Trafalgar is 36° 04.4' N and that San Juan is 18° 28.3' N... So I need to drop roughly 17 and a half degrees of lattitude. Just keep heading west and drop to the correct lattitude... Could I use this method to hide my indiscrétion? Could I be confident enough in it? Or would I have to turn back and admit my indiscrétion?
