I've just become interested in Star Altitude Curves - the only posts I find related are 8 years old. I've attached some crude code based on Dave Walden's original post (and his data), written in Python and an example plot.
The altitudes check against my elderly HO249.
According to Bowditch, the latitude scale on the Weems Star Altitude Curves was spaced according to the Mercator Projection - does anyone have any ideas about how to achieve this with computer plotting.
Presumably the HO249 selected stars would be a good guide to choosing stars for a set of such charts?
