I share Luc van den Borres’s admiration for Murray Buckman’s ability to find this article in L’Illustration. The article mentions the watchmaker as one M. Anquetin in Paris. Apparently these watches were actually made; the British museum has a different version in its collection, also manufactured by by Modeste Anquetin. Not surprisingly, in this specimen the reference meridian is Greenwich and not Paris, partly hidden by the hour hand, some 9 minutes of time East of Greenwich.
