I agree completely. The tricky part is convincing people that we all agree
that this is the case. It means you have to bend over backwards to answer every
concern. Otherwise, the group will splinter, and then we end up with the
    outcome that nobody wants.

"As I see it we people are simply using a different server and address,
which of course necessitates a modification to the lists name."

There are a few other details which are very important to some people, and
we need to make sure that nothing valuable gets lost in the transition. Since I
created the google list, I feel I have a responsibility to answer those
concerns, but please feel free to contribute in any way you see fit. This is a
    group project...

By the way, it's also worth emphasizing that this list has moved before. It
hasn't been called Navigation-L forever. The original list name was just
"navigation" and the listserv address was on ronin.com. The "common" name for the
list was the "Navigation Mailing List". I've been trying to get in the habit
of refering to this list as the "Navigation List" so that we don't
unnecessarily develop loyalties to meaningless net names like "NavList" (which can be
    changed anyway).

    And:
"The reason, if I understand it correctly, is because of reliability issues
that could not be corrected with the original server. If I am in error,
please explain to me what is going out of existence, and why should try to save
what was demonstrably shown to be broken and unable to be repaired."

Some list members have argued that 'nothing is perfect'. All lists have
problems. And they're quite right up to a point. It's a matter of degree. The
problems on Navigation-L (as served from webkahuna) to me seem far greater than
they should be. But then again, I've had a lot of experience with lists, so I
know that this is not normal. For folks who have only known Navigation-L, the
problems are "normal" more or less by definition.

    And:
"It would appear to me that some are confusing the cart for the cargo. But
    then I could be wrong."

I think you're right, but this is basically an education issue. For example,
a number of list members are quite worried about the archive maintained on
i-DEADLINK-com. They see this as the cargo --the real list-- when it is nothing of
the sort. It's not connected with the list in any formal way, but they don't
see that yet... So we keep talking and teaching and maybe eventually they'll
    understand. Or maybe not! :-)
