I figured this out about 1/2 an hour ago while taking a sight of Venus
("Hey, these front shades are too light to be for the sun, I wonder what
they could be for?"). Boy, do I feel silly. What a difference it made.
They're also tremendous for reducing the brightness of the moon when
using stars.
