You mean the same shades you view the entire orb of the sun with?
Okay, I'll bite. Yes, those would be safe to view the eclipse with.

On TV the other night one astronomer mentioned that any darkened glass " totally" blocking out the sun would be sufficient to directly view eclipse. Seems one of the darker shades on a sextant would work fine. OK??
