Can you plot a line of position from a visaul magnetic bearing?

Can you plot a circle of position from a radar range or from a vertical angle on a landmark with known height? (more uses for a sextant)

Can you plot a circle of position from a horizontal angle between 2 landmarks? (another sextant use)

Have you read thru Chart 1 (US) or whatever your local charting legend is called/numbered/ whatever?

Do you understand the difference between flashing, isophase, occulting and various other forms of minor and major lights?

Can you swing a compass and create deviation cards for both night and day use?

Do you know how to convert map bearing/course/heading to a needed compass value or visa versa?

Have you read thru the official pilot book for your local area?

Do you know the standards for drawing time, courses, fixes, estimated positions and dead reckoning positions on a chart?

Do you know how to find the units of depth used on a chart?  It's scale?  Variation, annual change and epoc?

Can you visually estimate speed thru the water?  If not what aids can you get for this?

Do you have a log book for logging speed and course over time?

Trivia: Did you know that you can obtain range to another vessel by measuring the angle between it's waterline and the horizon beyond?  You only need to know your own height of eye, nothing about the vessel's or landmark's dimensions.  Yet another sextant use.

I won't bring up COLREGS, that's not navigation, and based on experience in another forum, can be extremely contentious.
