    Possibly heading to Bermuda, which is SE of Cape Cod.

    Not sure why, though.   This time of year the Intra-Coastal Waterway would be a heck of a lot better than offshore.   Of course you don't sail the ICW, you motor through it.   Maybe no money for fuel....

    (For those unfamiliar, the east coast of the United States is sheltered by barrier islands all the way from New York City to the bottom of Florida; a waterway usable by small commercial craft (the reason for its existence) has been dredged.   In fact, it continues around from Florida to Texas in the Gulf of Mexico.)

    Not only did those sailors leave on the wrong date, they also went the wrong way. How could they end up 190 nm SE of Cape Cod when they should have been headed SW? At least we can say the one good thing about them that they were not stricken by trackline attachment syndrome!
