    Step one in this puzzle:
I don't know the aircraft type but you named your file "shackleton.jpg". OK then. It's a Shackleton maritime patrol aircraft (comparable to a US P-3 Orion).

Step two: poke around on the net, apply a little Google Image Search. It's aircraft XF707 from squadron 206. There's some nice artwork with a little history of the aircraft here (near the bottom of the page): http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww3/s/622/9/0. Several pinterest pages claim that the image is from 1964 flying over the Cornish coast near its base at RAF St. Mawgan. This is all consistent and I believe 1964, but pinterest pages are heavy on copy and paste and frequently wrong. Some confirmation would be nice. I spent a while scanning along the coast of Cornwall, but I can't get it to match up with the photo. Can anyone else find a match?

Step three: minimal lighting details and shadows are consistent with afternoon flying northeast within a month or so of the summer solstice, so let's say June, 1964.

While poking around near RAF St. Mawgan I found a little aviation museum. Spotted the distinctive broad wing of a Canberra and maybe a Shackleton with its wings off in the process of restoration?? See below.
