I wrote previously:
"Key astronomy here: you get from one view to the other by a pure, simple rotation about the east point on the horizon."
This animation shows the rotation of the sky about the east point as the observer travels from the equator to 45°N. Stick a pin in that "E", and the starfield simply rotates around it. The change in orientation is exactly equal to the change in latitude.
