    Brian,

Popular reduction methods on this list are:

    1. Pub 249 for table reductions. (relatively quick and mistake free)
    2. Trig calculator (most bang for the buck, compact, accurate, and fast)
    3. The Naval Observatory web sight for internet reductions.

Serious celestial navigators should learn as many methods as possible to add reduction versatility and variety .

Methods I use most in order of preference:

    1. Palm Centro cell phone with Pilot Navigator software version 6.9 (very fast)
    2. Pub. 208 Dreisonstok with Ix azimuth diagram (compact fast short table)
    3. TI-36X PRO scientific calculator. (excellent value and solar powered)

    Traditional methods I like:

    1. Ex-meridian by Hansen's tables
(quickest LOP by table but limited to one hour before and after LAN)
    2. Time Sight by Martelli (most unusual)
    3. K&E 4080-3 slide rule (doesn't need batteries ;-)

What I used professionally for 20 years:
    1. Tamaya NC-77 (very fast and uses AA batteries or rechargeable NiCad AA batteries)

There are many other great ways to reduce sights and each should be tried so that a personal choice can be made.

Question? What method or methods of sight reductions are people mostly using in this group. Norie's, H.O. 211, H.O. 208, H.O. 249, H.O. 229 or some other method not mentioned. Personally I enjoy learning them all. All though I do prefer using Norie's Haversines method the best followed by H.O.229. In short, I feel its good to have both a DR method and an AP method your arsenal for your navigational adventures.
