Facebook subverts the meaning of "friend". To be or have a friend was
once regarded highly, now it is one step(?) above total stranger. So -
what word do we now use to describe what once was "a friend"?

The recent movie "The Social Network" may be a reality-based fiction but I think that it does capture the essence of why FB is what it is. I find it interesting that the tone and style of the few discussion threads over there are already different, in my view, than those here on NavList.
