Re: Why Apps/Tools does not work on reednavigation.com

    Herman Dekker, you wrote:

Disconnecting/reconnecting on the local (camping) wifi makes no difference (I use Firefox browser).
But when I go to Reednavigation.com all the apps are working???"

A little alert for everyone: this is off-topic for traditional navigation. In fact, it's way off-topic. But since fer3.com will be moving at some point, too, I think it's worth talking about adjustments that have to be made.

Thank you for reporting on this, Herman.  Did you see the reply on the same issue from Lars, where he noted that a UPPBI (*) procedure resolved the problem? It's interesting to hear how the behavior changes as the new setup propagates and even more interesting to discover where it hangs up. A decade ago (or maybe it was 15 years --I haven't really been keeping track) when there was an update of the server addresses for a website, it would take up to 24 hours to reach a majority of the end users around the globe through their internet providers. That delay improved to an hour or less a few years later. Progress... But more recently something interesting has happened: the data get stored (cached, as they say) on local devices like Wifi routers.

Caching web addresses means faster peformance on doman lookups that can save a fraction of a second on every wesbite (it adds up!). The catch is that it's hard to know where and when this is happening. And another catch is that you may not have access to all the caching points in the chain. You say you're at your "camping" location currently, yes? Disconnecting and reconnecting to the WiFi there won't necessarily change anything because the router device --cable, satellite, whatever-- may store some DNS information independently.

You mentioned that you can connect to the web apps via the links at ReedNavigation.com. Those links are redirecting to the same web apps as the "pure" links via clockwk.com. For the time being then, don't worry about it. As long as you can get in via ReedNavigation.com, you're all set. If you feel like talking to the management there at the camping, you could ask them to reset their internet access (risky if they don't really know what connects to what!).

    * UPPBI. What's that? If anyone else experiences anything like this, try "power-cycling" your internet router. You know the drill Un-Plug... wait a few seconds... Plug Back In (that's the famous "UPPBI"). Many lunations ago in April 2008, 9-year-old Kyle Broflovski demonstrated UPPBI in a famous television program: enjoy it here. If you do the math, Kyle would be 24 years of age today. But he is still nine.
