I’m not home to look at my Husun for confirmation, but I recall the contrast on the silver arc being good, with the engraved parts tarnished and the surrounding area a bright silver color. So readability may have been a reason for choice of silver. Also, would readability have been especially important for vernier instruments, which were still being sold until March of 1940?
