Thanks Frank, esp for the details re implicatioons! I loved the stories about The Knowledge from some years back, but hadn't connected them to the cognition issue until I read your note.
And bummer about celnav. But as I read your comment, I of course was reminded ob my College celnav instructor, Francis Wright's motto which she drilled into our heads: "Constant Vigilance!"
So I won't count on turning my sextant's micrometer wheel to keep my mind sharp - but I also have been brushing up on my morse code, hoping to get back to 20 wpm. An as it happens, CW is a perfect cognition preserver(acc to the articles I've read) as it combines memory, translation and kinesthetic inputs!
