    To get an idea of what is involved. As you say, another sextant might be cheaper.

    But, there is a good argument for lightly cleaning, lubricating, and using what you have. In your later posts it sounds like you have started on that.
    As far as the evaluation by the expert is concerned, unless it has been dropped, it can probably be adjusted to work well.

    I think that the normal complement of telescopes might have been a 12x inverting scope, an upright star scope of 2 or 3 power, and a zero magnification scope for rough weather. It looks like your sextant box has room for the one long and two short scopes. I think I see what may be a dark eyepiece in a pocket in the rim of the box. You may also have some extra, unrelated, parts.
