Well, the Chichester lunar explained in the 1966 UK Institute Journal of Navigation reminds me of a discussion in my book.
As pointed out in a recent posting, a star fix gives the correct latitude even if the GMT is incorrect ( because the stars� declinations don�t change appreciably over long periods if time). Therefore by taking a Lunar LOP at the same time as the star fix (well, almost the same time in a slow moving graft) you can determine the GMT of the observations (hence longitude) by adjusting the observation times of the Lunar and star fix so that they give the same position. For more details and an example, see �Time from a Lunar LOP and a Star fix� on p 97 in the new Revised and Expanded Edition of my book (or p 73 of the earlier edition).
This method seems simpler and cleaner that what I read about Chichester�s method. But I don�t think any of this is new.
