Z is a reduction of the 360 to 180.
Z is measured to 180 fm the elevated pole, East or West.
If a body is East of the observer meridian Z=ZN.clockwise.
If a body is West of the observer's meridian Z is measured
counter clockwise, or 360-Z. saving paper?.
