I say "zeenith" with the long "e". But I am pretty well the only guy I know in Edmonton who USES that vocabulary item, except for the men who have taken celestial nav classes from me and pronounce it the way I do.
Relative to specialized vocabularies, I remember going with friend years ago, on what was his very first sailing trip. We were anchored in Nanaimo harbour at night, watching the lights of the city, with him puffing on his pipe, and he said, "You know...when we are sailing, you speak a language that resembles English, but really isn't."
