Renee,
You do apply the time zone, but it's after you have figured out you Sunrise/Sunset times for your longtitude in GMT(UTC).
As for the different clocks...no way...just an extremely good timepiece (I like tachymetres, they help me use mental math on the bridge of my ship) and a nice little time zone chart. Always have you watch/clock on local time. It's ffar easier converting to GMT(UTC) when you need it.
