Re your note about "trust the computer", an integral and important part of that comes out as follows, in my view. Trust People, people you have no knowledge of, for computers were designed, developed and programmed by people. This is not to say that people in general have evil intent or are incompetent, though some are one, the other or both, but peoople can be problematic, and whast is sometimes described as The Human Eye, Mark 1 is still usefull.
I use, without much concern, an electronic calculator, in particular an HP 11C, that I've had for 20 plus years. So far as I can tell, "wrong" answers it sometimes produces are always due to operator error. Electronic calculators aside, slide rules still serve a purpose.
