I tried several reproductions. Of course I tried them in shops, never bought one:-) Sometimes even the shop owner was confused and thought that these are real things. (And the price was corresponding to that :-) My answer is short. They are NOT usable. These are decoration items, not instruments. They are for hanging on a wall to decorate a shop or a restaurant. People who make them (most of them are made by "Stanley London" but there are many others as well) do not understand (or do not care) how a sextant works. They are only concerned with how it looks. And sometimes their reproduction look very real, at a distance. Alex. P.S. Of course when I say "not usable", I mean they are not real sextants.
