It's certainly not a marine sextant. I suggest you ask a millwright. It looks like a tool for setting up machinery, perhaps a mitre gauge for a long expensive production run with a great big saw requing cuts at 3D angles e.g. framework for dormer windows. The circular hole in the box might have held a dial gauge. the DaveP
