Just to throw my 2 cents into this discussion, when you hear " celestial navigation" does it mean navigating among the stars or using the stars to navigate on sea, air or land?
No one seems to question the terms marine navigation or air navigation or land navigation.
Now, how do you do it? Dead reconing is used in all three. Celestial ( using the stars ), satilite navigation ( GPS ), electronic navigation ( RDF, Loran, VOR, etc. ), radar navigation - these are all HOW you navigate, not where.
Now the word terrestrial ( sounds like celestial ). I would think it means using land things to navigate on sea, air or land. You are in the South Atlantic and see St. Peter and St. Paul rocks - you know where you are by seeing a chunk of land or a light built on it. This is not piloting but seeing a terrestrial feature.
