Many artists still paint with brushes and paint, many poets still write with paper and pen. Computers can do it easier, different, but not necessarily better.
I think humans will always want to connect closely and organically with the work of hands and brain, giving a tangible result they can see, feel, touch and understand.. Navigation with compass, paper, pencil, sextant and in my case ,slide rules and some fine but fundamentally simple maths is food for the individual soul.Computers, satellites and GPS probably represent some of the highest achievements of mankind. But accessible to the individual soul they are not. they require a cast of thousands. Great works of mass art.
Our beloved Navlist would be a sorry thing if it relied on snail mail, international paper postage etc.
Vive la internet and emails! Vive la computer, satellite and GPS!
Vive la cel nav! Long live the free spirit individual! Room in this wonderful universe for both. (and if I'm near dangerous rocks in fog, I press the button!)
Francis.
