I use a waist high table with a marble top or a lower table with a plywood top. Neither one shows any sign of changing with time. The level bubbles of precision levels may take 30-60 seconds to settle. I have also noticed that doing sun sights the heat absorbed may be causing eddy currents in the fluid. A hard surface is best.
