In your response you wrote, "Alan,
You may have figured your LHA of Aries incorrectly".
I don't think I did, in that I believe I followed the instructions on the data sheet that came with my 2102-D.
The following illustrates how I figured LHA Aries. Date was 16 October, 2010, I used the current Nautical Almanac, and added 1 hour to the times shown therein.
Civil Twl 1848, Nautical Twl 1918. I got down to the beach shortly before Civil Twl (1848 hrs).
LHA Aries obtained as follows. Watch Time 1848. Zone Time 1848, no watch error. Zone description, 4 hours added to ZT giving UT 2248 hours.
GHA Aries for 22 Hours was, from NA Daily Pages, 355D 18.7M
GHA Aries for 48 Min. was 12 D 02.0M, adding up to 367D 20.7M. Subtracting West Longitude of 77D 06.6M gives LHA aries of 290D 17.1M. I used 290D as LHA Aries, setting this on the 2102-D.
I obtained a three body fix shooting UL Moon, at UT 22:58:10, Jupiter at UT 23:02:23 and Altair at UT 23:10:43. From 2102-D, AZ. Altair was 165D, Alt. Altair was 65D.
Reducing and plotting the sights gave me an Estimated Position to DR (GPS coordinates) distance of 3.5 NM, EP being South-East of DR.
Re the above,it seems like there was not a significant error re LHA Aries. If you like, I will try to scan the calculations and plot putting them up on the discussion, or failing that, e-mail them to you. Let me know. Thanks.
Alan
