Yes Google is full of photos like that. The rear has a 'poor mans' cosine and co-tangent table on the drums. I was thinking more about inside. Is there a spirit level, or do you simple measure the angle between two points? Maybe it depends upon the model. Also, the calculations in the instructions only make sense if they're using specially calibrated scales, which might also differ from model to model. Re: sailing: You'd be struggling to measure star altitudes above 45°. DaveP
