    I've had good luck with about 20 minutes before (and 20 after if you
    really want to graph the results). If you're happy with the quality of
    your sights, you can just set one of your before-noon Hs readings into
    the sextant and wait for the sun to drop back to that altitude.

    I generally use 2 minutes (I've got one of those repeating multi-timers
    set to give a standby 10 seconds before, and then a "mark it" signal at
