My homemade "Kamal" using 6" rule and cord. The cord wraps around the neck so CMs measure 1deg. Not my idea, but handy for quick reference. However, I find that calibrating your hand is also "handy": fingers 1,2,3,4, fist, span. Much quickier for rough setup of sextant.
