They took the vote today, and the leap second is dead! As dead as Julius Caesar, never to be resurrectionised. Wait, no it isn't. They're going to keep applying them to the calendar for a dozen years... until 2035 apparently? So not much urgency despite all the talk about urgency. By 2035 we'll be landing people on Mars and starting the first commercial fusion reactor!
