Why drop the leap second? It makes terrific sense in light of the number of second- and third-rate computer programmers in the world who build systems. They find leap seconds horribly difficult to cope with.
Now that we are done with the leap second, we are free to shift our calendar over to the "Eastman Plan": 13 months a year of 28 days each, with a "year day" holiday at the end to bring the total up to 365 days for the year. Or we could skip the "year day" and let our calendar drift out of sync with the sun even faster.
