The attached image shows a glass A frame windshield for the improvised artificial horizon. A trip to the dollar store scored two picture frames to use for construction materials. The picture frame glass is ideal for making the A frame windshield and the wood frame is a perfect foundation base to set the glass A frame in. Packing tape is then used to bind cardboard to the sides and seal all the edges. A very clear reflected image was observed :)

The coffee can lid improvised artificial horizon continues to evolve. The latest modification is a clear plastic A frame greenhouse that acts as a windshield (see attached image). The greenhouse plastic is from a discarded plastic container. Careful cuts and taped seams make for a stable structure that fits perfectly over the water tub. It is necessary to remove the greenhouse from the water tube immediately after each celestial observation to prevent interior fogging. It turns out that a solar still has also been created by accident.
Trials have been in the plus or minus 1 minute of arc range with the reflected Sun appearing a tad fuzzy. Glass would be better but not as handy.
