I have attached a short article from Ophthalmic Physiology & Optics from
2001 in which damage from the sun is discussed. It's not too large at 58k
so hopefully this won't be too much of a burden on those who are not
interested. The executive summary is that naked eye damage is
photochemical, not related to heat denaturation.
