The marquis de Chabert & the lunar distance
    From: Ducruy Jacques
    Date: 2018 Apr 13, 09:08 -0700

    Hello,

The Marquis de Chabert had computed the longitude of Louisbourg during 1751-52, with different methods : lunar eclipse, star occultation by moon, Jovian satellites ... and lunar distance !

In his book, he describes how he can compute the longitude by lunar distance, but his method is different of the method of Halley (used by d'Apres de Mannevillette the same year). Do you know the origin of the method of Chabert ? Is it an "invention" of Chabert or an older method ?

    Thank you in advance

    Have a nice week end

    Jacques
