Dear Geoffrey,
in fall 2003 I bought a Mercer chronometer on eBay and had a lot of
troubles: when I received it I discovered that the bridge together with
the balance had been unexplainably removed and put inside a small
jewerly box, and what is more the detent was broken, so first of all
buying a marine chronometer on the internet may not be a good idea
(considering also the risks deriving from shipping and handling).
Apart from this, I later had the chronometer serviced in the USA since
I wasn't able to find a qualified repairer here in Europe: your
statement that some repairers are still active in the UK sounds
therefore quite interesting to me.
Could you provide their names and address?
