I learned today that Stan Klein passed away two days ago, on Friday, January 25, 2019 after a difficult battle with pancreatic cancer.
Stan was a great human being and a great friend. He was always full of hope and cheerful and fun. Intelligent and also possessing that rare quality, "common sense". He was a great communicator, and in the photo below, he's delivering a presentation at the Navigation Symposium at Mystic Seaport Museum in November 2017.
Stan was a big contributor to the NavList community. Here is a link to most of the hundreds of messages that he posted to the group over the years (the first was 18 years ago yesterday): NavList messages from Stan Klein.
Stan and I shared many interests, including "Star Trek". I had hoped to see him again this month so that we could review the latest shows and talk about the old days. He liked "Star Trek" for its human side as much as the space fantasy, and he admitted that his favorite episode was "The Inner Light". Fans of the Star Trek universe will understand...
I miss him.
