sin(Alt) = sin(Lat) sin(Dec) + cos(Lat) cos(Dec) cos(HA).
Or turn it around:
cos(HA) = [sin(Alt) - sin(Lat) sin(Dec)] / [cos(Lat) cos(Dec)].
Thanks. That is so easy! I have stated before that my maths is very, very rusty. I should have been able to work that out myself.
I have ordered a copy of Burtons tables online. It will be interesting to see how long it takes to get here.
I have googled Burton but there is not much information about him. One piece of information suggests that he was a younster, being born in 1899. Does any one have information about him? I have searched the forum archives but found only two messages both of which were in the form of (unanswered) questions.
