I don't remember having one degree errors when calculating Hc on a 10 inch rule, usually nin the one or two tenths range. Off course it depends on where on the scale you end up as the spacing of the markings vary greatly.

One degree of error disqualifies the slide rule method. Hopefuly
I can do better than that. I will be experimenting to see what my
aging eyes can do. A magnifying glass might improve accuracy. I am
OK
with one tenth of a degree of accuracy.
