The world of software in 1989 was a very different place! Today that product probably wouldn't even run on a modern computer except possibly in something like a DOS emulator.
I found the description of this in the online copy of "Miles Gone By" via Google Books. You measure the altitude of an unknown star at some known GMT, and given a DR position, it tells you what star you observed. It then generates an LOP based on its best guess. In the late 1980s, that star-guessing function was a product. Today, it's a minor feature (you may well find it tucked away under a sub-menu in some recent navigational software product).
