In the Royal Navy clocks are normally reset at 1800 which is between the First and Second Dog Watches. Each of the Dogs (only two hours long) are extended or reduced by 30 minutes. For ships in company, the Senior Officer decides when clocks should be reset. When crossing the International Date Line it is usual to change the date at midnight. Philip Ouvry
